Yesterday I finished writing a first draft of a manuscript that describes a typical day for me in prison at this stage of my confinement. I’m glad to have memorialized how I spend my time in here. Carole will coordinate typing (thank you, Tristan and Jonathan!) and editing, which may require several rewrites. My hopes are to produce the book and make it available to readers by the late summer or early fall of this year.
With that project out of my hands, I woke this morning with enthusiasm to begin a new writing project. Well, it’s a rewrite of a project I began last April. It’s a manuscript that I’m writing for at-risk adolescents and young offenders who are coming into the criminal justice system. Today I began the second version of the manuscript in a completely different style. Rather than using an instructive method, I’m offering the guidance in a classroom setting—as if I’m giving a presentation. Readers can receive the message through a dialogue I have with others, through some narration, and some reportial writing. My hopes are to finish a first draft before early August. We’ll see.
I’m enthusiastic about publishing both of these books before the fall. With the exciting innovations in self-publishing I see many opportunities that I intend to harness. Both of these books will give me more experience to build upon.
