It’s 4:30 in the afternoon and I’m about ready to climb onto my steel rack, in cubicle 15, to rest. I had a productive day that began at 1:15 this morning. Some days my writing flows easier than others, and I’m beginning to write about this second half of my imprisonment, that, all in all, is a happier time. By the time I finished my work today, I advanced the manuscript through page 354.
I ran 10 miles in the morning, lifting my cumulative tally to 2,208 miles over the past 249 days.
When I lie down, I’ll begin reading a new translation of Aleksander Solzhenitsyn’s first novel entitled, A Day In the Life of Ivan Desonivich. I read a different translation of this book more than a decade ago, but I think that I’ll appreciate the story more this time now that I’m spending so much of my time writing.
Perhaps when I finish writing the manuscript for Earning Freedom, I’ll write a novella about the struggles of a fictional prisoner. Solzhenitsyn established himself as a literary genius with his book and I want to study it closely to see if I can learn from his writing style and character development that has received so much acclaim.
