Today my wife submitted my sample chapter and proposal for Earning Freedom to Jim, the literary agent who represents my work. I’m hopeful that he will secure a publishing agreement, but I understand this process can take some time. Despite my publishing history, as an incarcerated felon I understand that some may have a reluctance to extend me the forum that comes through publishing. We’ll see how the project develops.
In the early morning today I wrote an article about reality TV for PrisonTalk. I’m hopeful that I can play a role in bringing more attention to the prison experience, and a reality TV show, I think, can help the efforts. I’ve read that more than 50 million Americans have a record with America’s criminal justice system, so I expect an audience exists. Although some may beat me to market, I intend to work with television and broadcast media in some capacity upon release. Who knows when that will come.
I found a book in the library last night that I’ve begun reading. It is a memoir from a man who spent many years in Russian prisons. The book was published in the 1960s, and I found the first four chapters chilling in their description of how the man was abducted by agents of the state police. I don’t know whether I’ll read the entire book, as I’ve really curtailed my reading schedule. My focus at this stage of my journey is writing about my own prison experience .
I ran 10 miles in the morning, and I completed the run in less than an hour and twenty minutes. At 7:30 I returned to sick call for another three-day prescription of allergy medication. This fluid in my ear annoys me, but the allergy pill helps some. Running helps too. I now have a tally of 1,620 miles over the past 185 days. (I think that’s right, I don’t have my written log with me. Tomorrow’s entry will be more accurate.)
In the afternoon I wrote another article for Change.org.
