Prison Journal: Day 7816

January 2, 2009

Another overcast day, with temperatures at Taft Prison Camp in the 50s. I was writing at the quiet-room desk by 4:00 am. I appreciate that time alone, when most everyone else in the unit is asleep. I am able to concentrate.

This morning I worked on making modifications to the PrisonNewsBlog.com that Carole has launched for me. I have hopes of building a larger audience through that blog. We have a need in America for Prison Reform, and as a long-term prisoner, I feel as if I have a duty to let American citizens understand the reasons why. By writing daily content for the blog, I also expect to build my brand. Such efforts will assist my career upon release.

With more than 21 years of confinement behind me, I am thinking more and more about what I can do to strengthen my chances for success. I feel determined. Motivated. Ready. Yet, I know many challenges await me. I wrote a blog that described the typical paths of two federal prisoners. My hopes are that the blog will illustrate the need for prison reform.

I ran 10 miles. That makes 20 miles for the year. I’ve logged 192 miles in 21 days of running without a single day off. Keep going.

In the afternoon I typed a blog post for a professor who wrote me through the feedback section of my site. Actually, I typed him a response, not a blog post. Then I began writing a blogpost for PrisonNewsBlog, in longhand, about Jeff to illustrate the reasons we need prison reform.

The market soared for the third day, with the S&P 500 closing at 931; the SSO closed at 27.86. I continue to read Obamanomics, which I’m enjoying.
