Some readers may want an idea of the food that prisoners eat. When I was confined at the Taft federal prison camp, I avoided the chow hall. I chose to purchase my food from the commissary and eat alone rather than expose myself to the degrading and dehumanizing atmosphere of the Taft chow hall.
Here at Atwater federal prison camp, on the other hand, fewer than 140 prisoners serve time. I don’t mind the chow hall here at all–it’s clean, and the food is the best that I’ve had in prison.
We’re adjacent to the Atwater high-security U.S. penitentiary; a strategy to reduce the perilous volatility inside those walls may be to feed the men well. Those of us confined in the camp derive some benefit, because the food is quite good here. To provide readers with an idea of what we eat, I’m going to describe the meals for the month of November. Each day will have its own entry.
Okay. I said that I was going to write the menu for every day during the month of November and I’ve now completed that task. During the month of December, I will record the commissary purchases I make each week. That way readers will have an idea of what it costs for me to live in prison.
