Profiles From Prison: Adjusting to Life Behind Bars

Profiles from PrisonAn in-depth view living behind bars from the perspective of prisoners themselves. Sections of the book are based on length of imprisonment. Some describe the actions that lead to their confinement, or detail the complexities of living in all-male communities. Others reveal the ways they cope with their terms, or the expectations they have for life after prison. Santos offers the gripping stories of men serving a variety of terms, providing commentary and analysis as he guides readers through the prison experience. Through these often-difficult accounts, readers gain a greater understanding of what it means to be a prisoner, and how the system itself can contribute to both positive adjustment and negative outcomes alike.

I read part of the Profiles from Prison and I will tell you that I really am loving it so far. The book completely caught me up when I read about Dewey’s suggestion that there is no absolute good in man and that the good man is the man who no matter how morally unworthy he has been, is moving to become better. This is one point that struck a chord within me. Also, the author’s whole view point in taking responsibility of their actions, living life with learning, not whining about situations that cannot be changed, and advocating strong beliefs has changed my attitude on the injustices and the tragedies in life. Everybody has injustices that they have to deal with whether it is a prison sentence, living life away from a loved one, a terminal disease, or even just anxieties of life. Everyone can learn something from reading this book.

I have a Family member currently serving a seven year sentence in a nj prison. Mr. Santos books have given me valuable information. Its been a great help when speaking with my loved one. Don’t stop writing your books and doing the next best thing. Any ideas on what to expect when someone gets out many bridges are burned to get them there .
